A cuppa with David WEB.pngMeet David, he is our latest business expert for the Community. You may be thinking...but he is a man, how can he relate to Women in Focus? Well, you might be interested to know that David has worked with women business owners for ten years! So he can definitely relate to us here at Women in Focus. Pour yourself that cuppa of whatever tickles your fancy, or branch out and try a green tea with jasmine - it's David's fav!

Who would you like to have a cuppa with and why?  Also, what would you have in the cuppa?

I’d love to have a cuppa with my late grandfather. I’ve found out so much more about his life since he passed and I also didn’t appreciate how much of an influence on me he had on me when I was a young boy. The opportunity to spend some adult time with him would be priceless.

I’d have green tea with jasmine – my favourite!

Your elevator pitch?

I work with women business owners to help you build a Higher Purpose Business – one that serves your values, that works for you rather than you working for it and still gives you time for yourself, your family and your passions. I help you get out of overwhelm and build a business that is rewarding for the heart and for the purse.

How long have you been in this business?

10 years

Share something about yourself that not many people know.

I studied voice (singing) for over 20 years.

Why are you a member of the Women in Focus community?

I believe the inevitable future leaders of the world will be more evenly spread between men and women. The world is quite broken at the moment – economically, politically, environmentally etc., and it is men that have been driving the agenda for the longest time. We need a better balance and to bring the innate abilities of women to the fore – things like compassion, collaboration, intuition, creativity and a heart centred approach that brings flexibility and flow. I want to help empower women by helping them to build successful businesses and unlock their magnificence for all of us to benefit from. Women in Focus gives me an opportunity to interact with more women and to add value.

Best business tip?

It’s both a business tip and a personal tip - Find what it is that inspires you, that feeds your soul and gives you energy, then build an intelligent business model around that passion that allows you to do your life’s work and to be rewarded appropriately for it. This is the single biggest source of happiness for you and contribution to the world that you can make. I call it a Higher Purpose Business.

Thought of the day?

"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within. "

- Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Source of inspiration?

I have many sources J. Of course my wife and 3 wonderful boys are my rocks, but the amazing women I meet every day inspire me constantly. I don’t have any heroes per se, rather I am inspired when I see ordinary people do extraordinary things because they are themselves inspired to do so. And these people are everywhere. I am inspired further when I get the opportunity to be a catalyst for their growth.

Favourite ad?

I am a channel swapper and I generally can’t sit through ads. Anything good I’ll catch up online because it has gone viral, like the Eclipse Chewy Mints "Chew Your Way To Fresh" one.

Business blooper?

Many years ago we printed a promotional flyer – and forgot to put the phone number on it!

What was your first job and what was the biggest skill you learnt from it?

I worked as a kitchen hand at McDonalds when I was 16. It was a wonderful learning ground but the biggest lesson was the reward that comes from doing a job well.

If you could be an animal what would you be?

A phoenix. I know it is mythical but I’d love the chance to come back with all the learnings from one life and do even better the next time around. Also, the ability to fly would be incredible!

What makes you laugh?

Dry, witty humour, especially a clever play on words.

What’s your favourite food?

I am a carnivore by nature – genetically determined I’m afraid – and with great respect to all the vegetarians I can easily say that roast lamb is my favourite food.
