Juggling toddlers and newborns can be hard, but how about we also throw in a new business to manage in your “spare time”. Sound impossible? Luckily, Sarah O’Bryan has just what we need…a fantastic book called “Business & Baby at Home”. Put your feet up and pour yourself a cuppa and read about how Sarah once asked her client if they needed to do a Poo!
Who would you like to have a cuppa with and why? Also, what would you have in the cuppa?
Frida Kahlo. She has always fascinated me. She lived by her own set of rules, was a true artist and an amazingly resilient human being. I really admire resilience in a person. We’d be drinking Champurrado in her blue house, because when in Rome... or, in this case, Mexico.
Your elevator pitch (a snapshot of your business)?
In response to rigid workplaces and the increasing financial demand on families, small home-based businesses are thriving with an overwhelming percentage of them driven by work-from-home mums. Starting your own business can be a daunting process, especially when teamed with motherhood - so how do you build a business, raise kids and stay sane? My book, Business & Baby at Home, opens an honest conversation on the realities of taking this path. Exploring the joys and challenges of working from home while gracefully balancing family life, relationships and domestic duties. Packed with clever business acumen, practical ideas and valuable advice, it’s an insightful guide for those of us searching for fluidity between our personal and professional lives.
How long have you been in this business?
I’ve been a graphic designer for about 16 years. I launched Lasso Creative in 2002.
Where can we find you on the web?
How can the community connect with you in Social Media?
Share something about yourself that not many people know.
Most people tell me that I’m really relaxed and laid back, but it’s the opposite. My mind is constantly ticking over, brainstorming new ideas and dreaming up my next goal in life.
Why are you a member of the Women in Focus community?
To connect with amazing women who love what they do, and do what they love.
Your wow moment?
Seeing the words of how my life works in print in my recently published book, Business & Baby at Home – a set-up and survival guide for mums (Finch 2013).
Thought of the day?
Dreams don’t work, unless you do.
Biggest challenge at the moment?
With a newborn in the house again – simply, to get enough sleep!
Dream for the future?
Travelling the world, gypsy style, with my family.
Source of inspiration?
Anything new, fresh and beautiful.
Answering my mobile while looking at my toddler, and greeting the caller with ‘Do you need to do a Poo?’
If you were an animal, what would you be?
A duck. Serene on the surface and paddling like mad underwater.
What makes you laugh?
My older brother. We share the same silly sense of humour.
What’s your favourite food?
All food! I’m always dreaming of my next meal. It’s a constant obsession, and one that gives me much joy!
