About five and a half years ago I serendipitously stumbled upon the opportunity to lead Women in Focus – it wasn’t on a plan, it’s not a role I interviewed for – and I probably wouldn’t have got it if I did! It was an infant in need of a caretaker, and that was to be me.
I then partnered with Karen James, and we were given the opportunity to design a new model for building relationships in business communities on a social, digital and experiential platform, as opposed to a transactional one; to create opportunity for women and women led businesses by opening new pathways to information, inspiration and connection; and, I was given the opportunity to build, lead and ultimately learn from this amazing team.

It is now time for me to move on, to chase down new adventures; take my own advice and leap off that cliff like the barnacle goose that has not yet learnt to fly. I have no idea where I will land, and what I will be doing next, but I do trust that great things lie ahead. I have long listened to the stories of brilliant women who take great personal and financial risks, who go up and down from major highs to deep ‘want to throw it all in’ confidence smashing lows – and these are the most fulfilled passionate women I know, for they are the architects of their own lives.
There is nothing quite like motherhood to give you a perspective on the important things in life, to get you thinking about who you want to be, how you want to live and the life you want for your child. If I fast forward on my current trajectory, I am not there – and that’s a difficult realisation to make, because I love the team I come to work to be with every day, and I continue to be inspired by this community and the many incredible people I meet. It would be easy for me to keep cruising.
But as they say, change doesn’t happen without making a change – and a vision without a plan, is just a wish.
So here begins the change…
